PRESIDENT'S WELCOME MESSAGE
The mission of the South Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants (SCAPA) is to promote quality, cost effective, and accessible healthcare in South Carolina. With the passage of the healthcare reform act by Congress and President Obama, physician assistants are being increasingly recognized as a part of the healthcare team who can serve an integral role in increasing access to quality, cost effective healthcare.
SCAPA is here to serve the needs of society, the healthcare system, legislators, and our colleagues in the quest for quality healthcare. To that end, SCAPA provides professional and clinical development opportunities to physician assistants throughout the state. In addition, SCAPA serves as the voice of the profession in South Carolina and works towards having PAs recognized for their contribution on the healthcare team.
The leaders of SCAPA coordinate the efforts of PAs from across the state to advocate for our profession. We are undertaking initiatives to improve the practice act to facilitate the appropriate employment of PAs, make certain that PAs receive reimbursement for services rendered, and that the PAs can be delegated all of the responsibilities for which they have been educated and are prepared to deliver. Our primary focus is on the patient.
On this website you will find information for the general public, physicians, potential PA students, and practicing PAs. If you have a question related to the physician assistant profession that is not addressed on this web site please contact us at the address at the bottom of this page.
